Frankly, most of us are quite familiar with the different myths, related to weight loss, which are prevalent in our urban society. It's not an unknown fact that everybody desires to have a wholesome body, this can be achieved by following a balanced and a healthy diet plan. Ideally, these myths or misconceptions should not hinder your way of successfully losing the extra bulge off your body. Let us expel the myths in terms of losing extra weight in detail.

Myth #1 - 'You should only ingest food from specific group'
As per different crash diet plans, the main focus is towards cutting down the particular meal groups or only ingesting a particular meal. Our human body is made in such a manner that it can't survive on one type of food, it requires a balanced diet to stay healthy and to maintain a smooth functioning of the different body parts. Our body requires vegetables, fibre, carbohydrates, fat and protein. It has to be ensured that nothing is cut out wholly. Having a strong immune system is also very important, it helps one to stay healthy and keep the health-related ailments at bay. For a healthy immune system, nuts, fruits, seeds and grains are required.

Myth #2 - 'Meat is the only source of protein'
The key sources of protein are - legumes, fruits, oils, gains, veggies and nuts. As far as meat is concerned, it contains sodium and fat. Red meat contains sodium and body fat but excessive ingestion can prove perilous, especially for the heart patients. Legumes, oils, nuts and grains have more protein than red meat.

Myth #3 - 'You should starve yourself to lose weight'
As per a survey, it has been discovered that around 90% of the people, who have successfully lost weight, consume three healthy meals on a daily basis, with breakfast being the most significant meal. The best part is that these people also said that they didn't have any bereaved feeling, in fact, they felt satisfied, happier and confident. If one really wants to feel satiated then it is important that a healthy diet plan is followed that comprise of whole grains, fruits & vegetables, healthy fats, lean protein and low fat diet.

Myth #4 - 'You should exercise hard'
The survey also revealed that all those people who lost weight, used to exercise three times in a week for approximately half an hour. Regular brisk walking was their main activity. Well, this still don't live up to the mark set by The National Institutes of Health, The National Academy of Sports Medicine and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As per the experts, one should get 10,000 steps regularly. It should be ensured that one does varied physical activities for 20 minutes in a day. These regular activities can include - swimming, walking, cycling, jogging, yoga and resistance training.

Myth # 5 - 'Losing weight is impossible if one is over 40 years of age'
Age is not an issue when it comes to weight loss. Yes, the fact cannot be denied that the metabolic rate comes down and one tends to lose lean muscle with old age. But, with regular physical activities and cardiovascular training, flexibility and resistance training, one can easily boost up lean muscle mass and the metabolism.
Once you know what is good for your body and what is not, gaining a leaner body is quite easy. Just remember one thing, it is impossible to gain overnight results. So, be determined and have patience, everything will fall into place.
