4 Tips on How to Lose Water and Shape Up Your Weight

Water is necessary for the functioning of the body. In fact, almost 40 percent of the body is composed of water. Plasma, the fluid part of the blood responsible for nourishing a human body, has 70 percent water content. However, too much water in the body may be indicative of serious conditions like edema, arthritis, thyroid problems, liver cirrhosis, kidney disease, and weak veins. Water can also be retained in the body because of external stimuli like sunburn, high temperatures, and premenstrual syndrome.

Symptoms of excess water
Foods that have high sodium content are partly responsible for high water level retention by the body. Once you notice that your hands, knees, feet and face appear swollen, your weight suddenly spikes, and there is a thickening around your waistline, these techniques will guide you.

Cut down on your sodium intake
Processed foods and salty snacks have high sodium content. Avoid these and go for fresh foods, composed of fruits and vitamins. In your daily cooking, add garlic, pepper, and onion to season and flavor your meals. Lowering your intake of sodium will have profound and immediate impact on the water level in your body. Read labels of the products you buy from the market to avoid substances which are high in sodium.

Increase the intake of foods rich in potassium
Potassium, unlike sodium, helps the body maintain the right water balance. Potassium works with sodium and chloride in achieving this balance. People who have deficiency in potassium experience swollen toes and fingers. Foods that are rich in potassium include broccoli, tomatoes, peas, bananas, leafy greens, dried apricots and apples. These foods will help you cut water weight. Lemon juice and grapefruit juice also helps the body remove excess water.

Take vitamin and mineral supplements
Deficiencies in essential vitamins B6, B5, and B1; vitamin D and calcium may cause your body to retain much fluid. Vitamins B6 and B5 are particularly instrumental for the body in removing excess fluids. Consume foods rich in these vitamins, or take a multivitamin supplement. Foods that are rich in calcium include low-fat dairy and yogurt. Whole grains, wheat germ and seeds contain lots of vitamin B1. Vitamin B6 can be consumed in leafy greens and beef, while B5 is contained in saltwater fish, eggs and beans. Drink a lot of water, and maintain your exercise routine. These two will accelerate the process of losing water weight to a period of one week.
